The Field Guide to the Dead Rings is a third party supplement and setting expansion for the Lancer TTRPG by Massif Press. The "Dead Rings" is the colloquial name for the remnants of CORONYS-5, a planet in the depths of the Long Rim isolated by a surrounding nebula, which shattered from a nearlight impact 31 years ago, known as the Ebulle Impact. The shards of the planet were frozen in stasis by the skyhook of Atelier Torbiere, an SSC subsidiary previously tasked with experimenting with and recreating HORUS technologies. The system, isolated by fields of debris and superheated nebula, is obscured completely from external eyes, and the same field disables most ships which have the misfortune of passing through, hence the name. The system, despite being devastated by a recent crisis, isolated from the rest of the galaxy, and rife with internal conflict, is full of useful machinery and esoteric technology found in the lifeless shuttles that constantly drift in. The Rings are abound with people ready to take all they can, and won't shy away from hiring pilots. These groups include, but are not limited to; a military empire rising from the remnants of a pre-impact country, an experimental SSC subsidiary cut off from its mother corp and struggling to recover, a newly founded city-state established by the former head of one Project HOMUNCULUS, an uneasy triumvirate between three rival pirate gangs on the brink of a succession crisis, and more! The few clear paths in and out are held in tight grips by the factions that control them, but just enough people and print files slip out for the locally crafted mechs to find their way around the Long Rim.

The supplement introduces:

  • Anacreton Fabrications, a new manufacturer with 7 licenses and 6 core bonuses.
  • 5 new talents.
  • 2 pilot hardsuits, 3 pilot weapons, and 5 pilot gear options.
  • 3 GMS weapons and 1 GMS system.
  • 7 exotics; 4 weapons and 3 systems.
  • 3 alt frames and 1 brand new license for core manufacturers.
  • 10 new core bonuses for the core manufacturers, GMS included (2 per manufacturer).

Hey, I just read over the document! It's really well written and I'm definitely using it for one of my games. However, I think there's an issue in either the PDF or the LCP. In the PDF, the Freyberg is described as being size 3, while in the LCP it's described as being size 2. I'm not sure which one is the correct one, so some clarifying might help!

Hi, and thanks for the positive feedback! The Freyburg is intended to be Size 2, I'll be sure to correct the inconsistency in the PDF.

Excited to read this! I purchased for $2, then saw the PDF had a minimum purchase of $10. I made a 2nd purchase of $8 to total $10, but it looks like it needs a single purchase of greater than $10? Is it possible to acquire the PDF with the two combined purchases?

Hi! Sorry for the delayed response.

Itch doesn’t support piecemeal payments, but if you’re still looking to get the book, I can confirm the payments and send you a copy of pdf through email.

[edited to remove email] Copy received, thank you!

The .lcp file seems to have no pictures when uploaded to comp con. Is this a bug?

It is not a bug. Unfortunately, I did not have the money to commission art for each of the frames while developing the supplement. I do hope to eventually provide art for them, but at the moment they simply do not have images.

That's ok, I love my big goblin just as much anyway.
